Airport authority meeting tonight

The Helena Regional Airport Authority is soliciting comments on its Master Plan Study which will serve as a guidance document for policies affecting the Helena Regional Airport for the next 10-20 years. The meeting will provide an opportunity to learn more about the operational aspects of the airport as well as projections on air service and the airport’s financial details.

The meeting will be held in the Second Floor Reception Room of the Helena Regional Airport Terminal Building, 2850 Skyway Drive, at 7 p.m. today, Oct. 25. Free parking is available in the short-term parking lot directly east of the terminal building.
More than 100 cities, many larger than Helena, have lost all airline service during the past 18 months as airlines have reduced services due to large operating losses. Airports with fewer than 150,000 passenger boardings per year must subsidize the airline operating costs in order to keep the rates and charges within a reasonable range.

Helena’s passenger movements have increased about 15 percent in 2010 despite Montana’s overall flat airline boarding numbers. Helena’s highest boarding year, the fiscal year just ended on June 30, indicates 95,000 passengers departed from the Airport.
