Capt. Kevan Smith has been appointed interim chief of public safety at Asheville Regional Airport, following the retirement of Chief of Public Safety Jeff Augram on Dec. 1, according to an airport news release.
Augram, who had been chief for 10 years, worked at the airport for 30 years as a public safety officer and aircraft fire and rescue professional. Augram holds numerous advanced certifications, and was most recently awarded his advanced law certificate, one of the highest accomplishments in the field of law enforcement.
“Jeff leaves a long legacy at Asheville Regional Airport,” said Executive Director Lew Bleiweis. “We wish him well as he begins to enjoy his retirement.”
Smith, who has worked in the airport’s public safety department for many years, will serve as interim chief until a new chief is hired.
