A truck carrying 7,500 gallons of fuel flipped on Highway 80 near Forney January 27, spilling some of its contents on the roadway. The westbound side of the highway was closed for at least 7 hours while HAZMAT crews cleaned the spill.
. January 28, Bay News 9 St. Petersburg – (Florida) Truck spills 20K pounds of chemical on U.S. 301 near Apollo Beach. A truck overturned and spilled 20,000 pounds of ammonium nitrate on U.S. 301 near Apollo Beach January 26.
. January 27, Associated Press – (Mississippi) Barge hits Miss. River bridge; oil cleanup ongoing. A barge carrying 80,000 gallons of oil collided with a railroad bridge and leaked an unknown amount of oil into the Mississippi River in Vicksburg, causing the waterway to close for several miles in each direction.

A Chitimacha tribal officer was killed and two St. Mary Parish sheriff’s deputies were severely injured January 26 by a man after he was confronted for setting a mobile home on fire.
