WASHINGTON

The Federal Aviation Administration has awarded nearly $2 million in grants to Iowa airports.

Iowa Sens. Chuck Grassley and Tom Harkin announced the federal funding Thursday.

The largest of nine grants will go to Waterloo Municipal Airport, which will receive $830,000 to buy snow removal and aircraft deicing equipment. The airport in Rockwell City will get nearly $400,000 and Bloomfield will receive $275,000 for runway repairs.

Airports in Dubuque, Maquoketa, Pocahontas, Red Oak, Sheldon and Webster City will also receive grants.

Harkin says the investment in airport infrastructure is vital to attracting businesses and tourism. Grassley says the funds will help increase airport safety and efficiency.
