Passengers give Indianapolis International Airport highest honors

Passengers begin boarding Flight 500, non-stop to San Francisco. United Airlines, the Indianapolis Airport Authority and The Indiana Economic Development Corp., sent off the city’s inaugural flight of non-stop service to San Francisco Wednesday, Jan. 8, 2014.

For the second straight year, the Indianapolis International Airport has been recognized as the best airport in North America by Airports Council International.
The honor was bestowed up the airport as part of the 2013 Airport Service Quality awards for performance excellence, according to Carlo Bertolini, director of communications at the airport.
The airport also won the title for 2012 and 2010, and has been ranked in the top three airports in North America in every year since.
“We owe our unprecedented three first-place finishes among North American airports to our dedicated, world-class employees,” said Robert Duncan, executive director for the Indianapolis Airport Authority. “It is their tireless commitment and pride to maintain a safe, clean, courteous, and dependable airport operation that allows IND to consistently elevate the travel experience for our guests”
To determine the rankings, passengerswere surveyed and rated 34 of the most important aspects of the airport experience, Bertolini said. The surveys were conducted in gate areas, when airport performance is top of mind among passengers.
A minimum of 1,400 passengers per year are surveyed at each airport.
