BEND, Ore.—Authorities have identified the owner-pilot of a motorized glider that crashed into the side of a vacant factory shortly after takeoff from Bend Municipal Airport, killing him.

Deschutes County sheriff’s Sgt. Mark Eggert says 64-year-old Miroslav “Mike” Liska of Somis, Calif., died in the crash at about 10 a.m. Sunday.

A witness told KBND radio that he saw the glider take off and circle Sunday morning. It made a broad, sweeping turn before disappearing behind a vacant Cessna plane factory.

Eggert says the Federal Aviation Administration and the National Transportation Safety Board have arrived to investigate the cause of the crash.
