Division of Aeronautics Recognizes Outstanding Airports
Illinois Transportation Secretary Ann Schneider congratulated the “2013 Airport of the Year” award recipients last week. Eight Illinois airports were recognized at the Illinois Aviation Conference, held in Moline, for their accomplishments throughout the year, including an outstanding partnership with the state of Illinois and their commitment to customer satisfaction.

Amendment to law protects Oklahoma private airstrip owners
The Recreational Aviation Foundation (RAF) has announced that Oklahoma’s Governor Mary Fallin (R) signed HB 1009 on May 13, adding aviation and fly-ins to the state’s recreational use statute covering non-public lands.

Aeronautics Commission to Make Funding Decision
The North Dakota Aeronautics Commission is in the process of allocating funds granted by the state Legislature for airport improvements. Commission director Larry Taborsky said that it will be up to the Aeronautics Commission to decide how the $6 million is divided.

CAF Looks for New HQ Location to Increase National Profile
The Commemorative Air Force (CAF) has announced its plans to establish the CAF National Airbase at a major metropolitan area and intends to launch a nationwide search immediately. The new facility, described by CAF officials as an “Airbase,” will contain a year-round aviation attraction, house CAF Staff and support volunteer CAF members who will organize and execute an annual warbird air show/fly-in.

AAAE Questions Airline Opposition to Local PFCs as Bag Fee Collections Skyrocket
“It’s ironic and disappointing that our friends in the airline industry continue to oppose giving airports the self-help they desperately need to address local infrastructure needs given their own increasing reliance on baggage fees and other ancillary charges to support their operations,” AAAE Gov President Todd Hauptli said.
