Utah Valley University will hold a public service for a flight instructor and student who were killed in a plane crash at Payson earlier this month.
A memorial service for Jamie Bennee, a 34-year-old flight instructor, and David Whitney, a 20-year-old aviation student, will be held Tuesday at UVU’s hangar at Provo Municipal Airport. The service begins at 11 a.m.
UVU spokesman Michael Rigert said university President Matthew Holland will be among the speakers, along with colleagues in the College of Technology and Computing, as well as the victims’ families.
Bennee and Whitney were flying a two-seat UVU aircraft on Nov. 17 when the plane spun into the ground, crashing in a front yard 300 feet from Wilson Elementary School. The two died at the scene. Nobody on the ground was injured.
Payson police Lt. Bill Wright said the investigation has been turned over to the National Transportation Safety Board.
“It’s their investigation now,” Wright said.
UVU’s Rigert said the NTSB has not released any information yet as to the cause of the crash.
